The Fishing Bothy located on the banks of the River Dee provided shelter and a place to meet for many years however the building fell into disrepair thanks to vandalism, water damage and community disconnection. The new cafe aims to rejuvinate the building by nestling the old charcterful facades amongst a group of riverside ‘pebbles’. These pebbles clad in sheet metal reflect the River Dee setting the building into the landscape around it. Newly introduced openings draw light back into the Bothy creating a brighter and more inviting space. A more apealing space along with the cafe’s contrast to Aberdeens traditional architetcural style aims to attract the community to the bothy once again making full use of the riverside park as well.
