The Cafe in the Quad project was a short 1 week assignment where we had to design a lighweight cafe/ gallery space for the anatomy room art studios.
A small quad in the complex of Marischal College, Aberdeen, provided opportunity this cafe/ gallery space and would be a great addition to accompany the anatomy rooms art studios.
The cafe set up into 6 Pods (for cafe seating, kitchens and storage) would allow art works to be hung around the space as people circulate the space. The Pods seperated from the surrounded space would be comprised of a Cross-laminated (recycled) Cardboard, translucent membrane and a main EFTE Cushion skylight. Maximising light and space whilst reducing structural weight was key in the appraoch to this project.
